5/23/2023 0 Comments Sorrowland book review![]() ![]() It is clear from the dust jacket cover that they were “Born on Turtle Island but currently resides on an isle in an Archipelago off the coast western coast of a continent.” This was not said to be cute, or to signal radical views it is clearly the author’s heart felt position. Solomon’s bio says they are a writer who writes about life in the margins. Sorrowland is a product of a writer who clearly decided they are writing the world as they envision. As activists, we are taught to envision the world we wish to see, not the one forced on us daily. Solomon is a writer who creates deeply thoughtful fiction. The longer I thought about the book and the more distance I had from reading my respect for it grew. ![]() The Unkindness of Ghosts is a surreal masterpiece, it took this space nerd a little time to accept the unreality of that novel and once I did the universe of that novel opened up. It ended up having more in common with Butler’s Kindred than Heinlein’s Orphans in the Sky. On the surface, there is always some kind of easy commercial pitch, in the Unkindness of Ghosts it was a novel in the well-worn genre of Generation ships. They defy easy and typical genre definitions. ![]() ![]() This is my third Rivers Solomon novel and they have one very strong connection. ![]()

If you’re going out with a guy who’s only interested in sex, you won’t make it to a tenth date. This is in keeping with the long-standing theory of the ten date rule, which states that it takes straight men ten dates with a woman to know that he wants a relationship. Studies suggest that 39% of couples declare their relationship at around the three-month mark, which works out to approximately 10-12 dates if you’re seeing each other once a week. ![]() However, the 10 date rule exists to give a guideline for where you should be after a certain amount of time. Even though this is not a one-size-fits-all formula, there are reasons to follow it. Some couples never do, while others establish monogamy after only a couple of dates. ![]() There is no “normal” length of time for a couple to become exclusive. ![]() 5/22/2023 0 Comments Gora by rabindranath tagore![]() Does Binoy forever listen to Gora, can Gora stay true to his principles and how does the society all around reacts, forms the crux of the novel.Īpart from the plot, there is much more to this book. There is Anondomoyee, Gora's mother, who is mother to both these friends and is very very refreshingly completely modern in her outlook and actions. Binoy while intelligent and educated, still is very heavily influenced by Gora. ![]() Gora is the leader with strict principles which he is ready to defend at any cost. As the illiterate learns and is able to make such statements, his world becomes radically transformed, and he is no longer willing to be a mere object responding to changes around him. In the course of his work and travels in the Third World and as a result of his studies in the philosophy of education, the author of this book evolved a theory for the education of illiterates, especially adults, based on the conviction that every human being, no matter how "ignorant" or submerged in the "culture of silence," is capable of looking critically at his world in a dialogical encounter with others, and that provided with the proper tools for such an encounter, he can gradually perceive his personal and social reality and deal critically with it. ![]() 5/22/2023 0 Comments The summer i turned![]() ![]() ![]() Jeremiah, the younger brother, and her boy-best friend, is the one who always makes sure that Belly is having fun.
